Jack found an article in the Crossfit Journal that was posted a while back about how to make your own climbing rope. If you've never looked for climbing rope before...you'd be shocked at how expensive they are so this is a good alternative! When ours is done, it will make a 15 ft. climbing rope. This way you just go to our local home improvement store and buy 2 bundles of 100 feet of rope. You cut each bundle in half so that you have 4 50 ft. strands of rope. Then you fold them in half to get 8 strands of 25 ft. each through some sort of carabiner or something to start braiding. The pattern was given to us in the article and once you get the hang of it, it actually goes pretty fast, but don't plan and doing it alone! Here are a few pictures of what we have done so far...we will definitely post the finished product when we are done so be sure to keep checking back to see how it turned out!
